Copenhagen Hopenhagen
As mentioned many times in class, lectures, and pretty much everything around; the world is very persistent on "going green". As I was reading the news, I came across a rather interesting topic. With only 5 days left, Copenhagen is trying to become "hopenhagen" by having a petition to "go green" due to UN climate change conference. This conference is thought to be the last major chance the world has to decide on a concrete and effective plan for reducing carbon emissions. There are approximately 30 billion CO2 emissions that are in the air; which can have a major negative effect on our economy and the environment because that is an increase of 40% since the 1990s. The plan of action is called the COP15. "The primary goal is to limit future carbon emissions and minimize the effects of climate change. In the process, the agreement will also fuel the transition to a sustainable green economy. We believe reducing carbon emissions will not only stabilize the climate, but also stabilize energy costs. Investing in alternative energy and conservation is predicted to create more than 20 million new jobs in everything from wind farming to biofuels to weatherproofing. A healthy environment and a healthy economy – Hopenhagen can make it happen." 192 countries are participating and the major discussion will be around the exact emissions targets and who will stick around to see if these criteria are met. Again, another statement of why it is important that we keep our environment healthy, and even help out with things that we feel are not in our control, but rather in mother nature's control..which in actuality are in our control such as the air.
