Parents just want what's best for us =)

Our discussion last class went off talking about parents and how they just want a place to leave their children. I don't think that is the case at all. I know many parents that want their child to be active and that's why they want their children to be on a sports team, play an instrument, and other skillful things while they are young. Another reason is humans learn best up to the age of 12 years old (ABIO341), that is because the brains are developing new neurons up to the age 12.
Yes, I agree that parents are busy now, because of the society and what is expected. But, I do believe that parents just trying to make their children well rounded individuals so they cab compete in the world. As time passes, expectations are rising, for talents, education and other skills in life. So, therefore parents have to be what they thing is right and give children a little taste of what is out there.
My cousin has two sons, and both of them are on sports teams, and at the end of the year he asks them which sport they liked the best. Then the next year he has them to the sport they like the best and then adds another sport, just so they know that there are other choices and they might like something else. Aside from sports they also try to sit down and help both sons with their homework and try to be involved in their lives. I think this is what parenthood should be like. Parents should give their children choices and have them decide where they want themselves to be involved.
So therefore in my opinion parents at the end of the day just want what's best for their children and want to raise their children in a way where they can make better decisions for themselves.
